The Village of Nemila which is located near the town of Zenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina, suffers during the heating season from significant air pollution. The pollution is caused mainly by the exhalations produced by individual housings, which use the traditional solid fuel. This leads to health risks associated with the upper respiratory tract and other related diseases as well as to the environmental damages.

The project of the Czech development cooperation will contribute to rectify the current situation through the construction of a district heating system. The main activities of the project are to build a heating plant biomass (for wood chips) and the basic network of the heat distribution. For the construction of a biomass heating plant, Nemila offers especially favourable conditions, as it is located in the vicinity of a large number of wood-processing mini-factories that are a sustainable source of cheap ecological fuel.

The Federal Television of Bosnia have reported that the implementer of the project and the local partner institution, the city of Zenica, signed the contract. Please click here to watch the video.
