Project will focus on marking out suitable places for suggested disposal sites and transfer stations. Main reason for commencement of this project is local unsustainable situation within the field of waste management. Infrastructure for a collection and storage of a municipal solid waste has been insufficient since Moldova has achieved independence and such a situation remains to be unresolved. However, in a present day this issue has become to represent considerable environmental burden while it also prevents Moldova from fulfilling necessary requirements for entrance into the European Union (EU). Among the main problems are non-functional coverage of waste collection system, insufficient infrastructure for waste management (absence of equipment for collection of waste, waste sorting, recycling, recovery and disposal of waste), insufficient security of current disposal sites and a large amount of illegal disposal sites. Moreover, there is a plan to create three disposal sites within chosen sub-regions of southern Moldova: Leova, Causeni, Cantemir. During 2014 the selection of the sites was terminated and also creation of technical documentation started.
