The project builds on the results that have been achieved within the existing support of organic agriculture (OA) in Moldova, in particular the establishment of several functional distribution channels for the products of OA. The project aims to increase the existing number of farmers working in OA and at the same time linking them to buyers on both foreign and internal markets.

The project component focused on the development of export will be implemented jointly with private initiatives and will be based on specific demand from private investors (especially in sector of cereals, grains and seeds with company PRO-BIO which is already supported by CZDA, Organic Village supported by the Dutch government, Black seeds, etc.). The project will mediate the initial communication and assist in building among all parties (farmers, consumers and certification) to reduce the risk of the initial transactions.

Component of the project focused on the development of the internal market will be based on analyses of the value chains of selected commodities and will utilize both the export potential of farmers to invest in the creation of added value (processing, marketing, etc.) as well as the potential of small organic farmers to cooperate and develop direct links with consumers in Moldova.

At the same time the project will continue to build the capacity of farmers through trainings, sharing of experiences from model farms in Moldova and abroad. It will also develop sustainable supplementary services for OA (consultancy, associations). The objective will be to strengthen the local know-how and ensure the sustainability of the sector and to create an exit strategy for the gradual withdrawal of foreign donors and implementing agencies. Additionally, his will be supported by promoting OA to consumers in order to increase the demand for its products in Moldova and by developing favourable environment for the OA through collaboration with key stakeholders, and enforcement of measures and recommendations generated by the Action Plan for the development of OA in Moldova.
