Project „Support of Fruit and Vegetable Production with Added Market Value“ responds to the unsatisfactory situation of Moldovan agricultural sector. Despite the fact that agriculture has a key importance for the local economy, it is characterized by a low level of revenues and high price variance of the agricultural products.
The project seeks to contribute to the year-round presence of Moldovan agricultural products on local and respectively also on foreign markets. By this, greater food security and improvement of the living standards of small and medium-sized farmers will be achieved.
The general objective of this project is to support selected cooperatives and help them reach their economic potential. The management of cooperatives and their employees will receive training on several topics such as marketing, financial planning, agricultural services, storage or product processing.
Current profits could be significantly increased if the produce was being sold throughout the whole year, especially during periods with higher market prices. To enable this, cooperatives will be supplied with equipment needed for the preservation and initial processing of fruit and vegetables.
The members of participating cooperatives will be led to share knowledge and experience with each other. The project will be implemented with support from the Moldovan Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and South Regional Development Agency.
