The project reacts to the problematic situation in social welfare institutions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and mental health problems. Violation of fundamental human rights in institutions is the second biggest problem of Moldova in the field of human rights after corruption. Therefore, the project aims at the overall improvement of the living conditions of people with intellectual disabilities and mental health problems. The project objective is to support and build personnel capacity of residential community-based services and to support the social inclusion process. To this end, supervisions are carried out for the staff of sheltered accommodation established under the previous project. Clients’ needs are identified, for example in connection with job opportunities, under the guidance of a Czech as well as a Moldovan expert in employment and social inclusion. Follow-up activities focused on local citizens help overcome ingrained prejudices against people with intellectual disabilities and mental health problems and allow better coexistence within the community. In summary, these activities support deinstitutionalization, development of modern community-based services and integration of the clients of those services into society.
