The project is concerned with the reconstruction and expansion of the current drinking water treatment plant in Studenci village in the municipality of Teslić that supplies 22 thousand people in the area. The unprocessed water is currently taken from the Velika Usora river and processed on technological line with the capacity of 60 l·s-1. The water quality varies on seasonal basis and the amount of rainfall with summer months having the most negative impact on supply. The whole supply system is quite unstable which results in constant water outages and restrictions due to frequent system failures. The current treatment plant does not manage to cover for the current demand which does not even account for the future extension of services to another 8 thousand people.
The project aims to build a new treatment plant and reconstruct the current one so that the production of drinking water can increase to 120 l·s-1 and also minimize the number of failures and outages that are currently happening. Apart from this, the project sets out to educate employees of the organization that manages the water processing and distribution and to educate the local population on drinking water management and protection through the organization of 2 seminars and an awareness campaign in 2 primary schools. The project contributes to the sustainable development goal No.6 (Clean water and sanitation). Further, the project will have a positive impact on environment and people´s health and quality of life due to the improvement and consistency of water supply in the area.
