The project deals with assistance to Moldova with implementation of Directive 91/271/EHS concerning urban waste water treatment. Fulfilment of this Directive is necessary condition for the entry of Moldova to the European Union and further development of local water infrastructure.
Project is focused on implementation of Directive 91/271/EHS in compliance with articles 3 -7), i.e. the definition and description of the agglomeration and definition of sensitive areas. The terms agglomeration and sensitive area mean:
Definition of agglomeration requires research of the current state of wastewater management in particular cities and villages which will take place in cooperation of Czech and Moldovan investigators. Draft of the sensitive areas will be based on surface water quality data and other data available at the Moldovan state authorities and from expert analysis of the data. The result will be approved legislation changes which will meet requirements (in accordance with articles 3-7) of EU Directive 91/271/EHS. Relevance and realism of proposed project is ensured by active involvement of partners, government agencies and private sector in the project.
In addition the Czech implementer, TG Masaryk Water Research Institute, public research institution (TGM WRI) will gives an idea of the investment priorities in management of urban waste water which enable target support for future investment projects for sewerage and wastewater treatment plants.

- Agglomeration is a built-up area from with the water is conducted away to the one of the wastewater treatment plant, where is cleaned.
- The sensitive areas are rivers and reservoirs in its catchment areas must be, in increased degree, removed nutrients – nitrogen and phosphorus.
