The project is aimed at improving accessibility of quality medical services in prevention and treatment of secondary diabetes in sake of improving quality of life of population suffering from diabetes in Moldova and reducing the death rate caused by late complications. It seeks to enhance professional capacity of medical staff from 36 medical institutions on district level in all regions of Moldova in modern diagnostics, treatment, and early detection of diabetes among high-risk population and at the same time to increase the access of the population of these districts to improved health services in secondary prevention and treatment of diabetes.

Special educational materials that were produced during previous years of the project will be updated and used for training of medical staff, students of medical colleges and patients. Selected doctors and nurses from the 36 district healthcare centres will be trained to deliver training on diabetes topics for other medical staff under the frame of existing life-long education for medical workers. Diabetic patients will benefit from periodic consultations and testing. Awareness campaign implemented within the project will inform the population about the importance of late complications’ prevention.
