The project sets out to secure a long-term, sustainable system of wastewater management in the village of Branjevo in Zvornik municipality. Currently, only a minority of housings are connected to canalization network and most of the communal wastewater flows to Driny river or to low-quality septic tanks or sumps that dissipate wastewater into surrounding soil and underground waters. This outcome has a variety of health risks for the local inhabitants and further negatively impacts tourism in the region. The project aims to finalize the construction of a 32 km-long wastewater network and build a wastewater treatment plant which will protect both the environment and the health of residents.

Part of the project is to educate employees of the communal company Zvornik so that they are able to operate and manage the wastewater network and plant on their own. To do so, the employees will be taken to selected waste management facilities in the Czech Republic in order to observe and learn. An awareness campaign will be conducted which will raise awareness of local populace in wastewater management and teach them the importance of water source protection. The outcome will be a reduction in environment pollution and, as such, will contribute to an increase in attractiveness of the region for non-residents to move in due to a better quality of life in the said area.
