Civil society organisations (CSOs) in the Eastern Partnership region play a key role in governance, contributing to the democratic transformation of countries, the eradication of poverty and inequality, and the protection of the environment. However, their position is often weakened or not appreciated by the public and they lack professional capacity or financial resources.

The main objective of the sub-project, which is part of the already ongoing EU-funded project "Civil Society Actors as Agents of Change in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova", is therefore to strengthen the overall role of CSOs as a legitimate, inclusive and credible partner in the democratisation process in the target countries, Moldova and Georgia. The specific objective of the project is to increase the accountability and effectiveness of CSOs as governance actors. The project aims to increase the involvement of their members and supporters, as well as communities and citizens living in the areas where they operate.

Activities under the FDC support will include the selection of CSOs, assistance with the preparation of organizational development plans, capacity building activities for CSOs, grants to support CSOs in civic engagement and advocacy initiatives, support for CSO involvement in policy dialogue mechanisms, and assistance in networking among CSOs or CSOs with the private sector.
