In the Thua Thien Hue province in central Vietnam, a three-year long project of the Czech development cooperation, focused on the development of the glass industry within this region, continues through 2014.

The project builds upon the outputs of previous Czech development cooperation in the area from 2006-2010 and 2012, which confirmed the location of the largest industrial  deposit of high-quality silica sand in the country. The main objectives include the evaluation of the economic importance of local raw materials necessary for th  e production of glass batch and strengthening of the technical and professional capacities of partner organizations of the State Geological Survey of Vietnam (GDGMV) and its subsidiary - Northern Central Division in the Vinh City.

The project has significant support from the key institutions in Vietnam, especially from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Industry and from People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province.

The project has been designed for a period of 3 years (2012) with each year dedicated to an interconnected corpus of activities taking place both in Vietnam (fieldwork, specialist training, transfer of technology) and in CR (technological tests and examinations, analyses of empirical data either collected in the field or produced in labs, production of outputs, specialist internships for Vietnamese experts).

In November 2013, specialists from the Czech implementing company G E T Ltd. submitted the final reports on the exploration of the feldspar, limestone and dolomite raw material to the representatives of the partner organization GDGMV. At the same time, presentations of these findings were held at GDGMV headquarter in Hanoi and at the Hue University of Sciences for experts from the state geological survey, for the staff of the provincial government and the  local government, other professionals and students of geological disciplines.
