The project aims to build resilience and support the reconstruction of conflict-affected communities and their local governance in Iraq. The project is based on an integrated cross-sectoral approach with an emphasis on local community engagement, combining activities in the rehabilitation of municipal WASH infrastructure together with the restoration of social services and their delivery to the public. This approach builds on the premise that providing the means to meet basic human needs will reduce the target population's dependence on negative coping strategies, thereby enabling them to focus on livelihood recovery. The simultaneous provision of job counselling, vocational training and business grants will then enable members of local communities to enter the labour market more effectively and facilitate sustainable livelihoods, while providing private and public sector actors with skilled workers and support to develop their businesses.
