Monastic schools play an important role in Myanmar society as non-state educational facilities. They mainly provide schooling to children who would normally not reach up to education. The monastic school system in Myanmar currently includes over 1700 schools and around 300 000 students. Due to a number of reasons manastic schools have so far been neglected in all child protection programmes and initiatives. Poor living conditions lead to situations where children are forced to drop out from schools which puts them under increased risk of becoming victims of various forms of abuse. Families and communities in the respective areas have limited knowledge and skills regarding child rights and protection. Therefore, the aim of the project is to increase capacities of educational non-state actors and other relevant local entities to effectively build and manage "Child-Protection Safety Net" in 30 communities in Mandalay division, Sagaing division and Shan State.
