It is estimated that about 2 million children in Syria are out of school. In the project areas, in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib, only 36% children regularly visit school. 5.7 million children and adolescents need an assistance in the area of education. The project responds to these needs and its aims to support school attendance and to improve wellbeing of children traumatized by the ongoing conflict in Syria. Better access to education is supported by cooperation with 15 project schools and by removal of key barriers, such as pressure on child labour, the lack of information on a state of educational services or knowledge gap of children not attending schools. Besides providing access to education and offering psychosocial support, the project focuses on improving the quality of education, particularly through teachers’ training, monitoring, greater involvement and better coordination of local authorities in an educational sector.
