Forests are an important aspect of life in Mongolia. They serve local residents as a source of water, provide shade at high temperatures, and for many they are a source of livelihood. Unfortunately, over the last few years, Mongolia faces significant challenges due to climate change in the forestry sector which have implications for both the social and economic life of the population. Mongolian forestry lacks educated and experienced professionals who could contribute to the sustainable state of the forests. This project is therefore aimed at increasing the expertise of forestry experts. The project follows up on the previous transfer of expertise within the project Development of forests and the gene pool of local forest tree ecotypes in Mongolia. During the expert visit to Mongolia in 2018, a workshop on “Forest development and genetic resources of local forest ecosystems as a means of adaptation to climate change” will take place and a forest management plan for the local team will be consulted. There will also be an excursion to read the temperature and humidity gauges and eventually a reconnaissance tour and preparations for further expert excursions which will take place in 2019 and 2020.
