The project is designed to complement actions from key actors in dzud (severe winter) resilience building in Mongolia. The aim of the project is to provide herders in four provinces with access to up-to-date local weather and climatic data to make informed decisions on livestock management practices, and when best to engage in market transactions. Information will be shared via a proven SMS platform, allowing herders to opt for different categories of information in an easily understandable format. The project will assess the barriers and needs in livestock-in-emergency practices, at community and institutional level and contribute to development and adaptation of guidelines and training curricula adapted to local context. Officials from relevant agencies and local authorities will receive support in utilising these materials as trainers, fulfilling their roles as duty bearers for disaster risk management.
