The overall objective of the proposed project is to improve the access of rural people in the district, Phong Dien and A Luoi, Thua-Thie Hue province in the central Vietnam to sustainable energy resources. The specific goals are to use renewable sources of energy for thermal and electric energy production and provide capacity building in this area. The project activities are focused on construction of family size anaerobic digesters in Phong Dien and A Luoi district to produce sufficient quantities of biogas, which cover household energy needs for cooking and possibly lighting. The proposed technology for biogas production is in accordance with the "Biogas Program for the Animal Husbandry Sector in Vietnam”, which is implemented in whole parts of the country. Further project activities are focused on the installation of two experimental photovoltaic units for monitoring an electricity production under the specific conditions in the target area. The implementation of the above mentioned technologies will be accompanied by information campaigns, training courses and workshops for target groups and project beneficiaries.
