Afghanistan is one of the countries with the biggest problem with drug users, as the prevalence of addiction is about 11%, which is approximately double the global drug use rate. Working with drug addicts is therefore crucial for improving the health of both themselves and society as a whole. The project focuses on two areas: to reduce the harmful effects of drugs and to reduce the demand for drugs in Afghanistan. For both areas expertise will be handed over to local experts by the Podané ruce association, which has more than 20 years of experience in the field and is capable of transferring a wealth of experience to the Afghan partner. This topic follows up on the successful project of the CzDA Moving drug prevention forward in Afghanistan (2014–2017). The goal is to provide accessible services for drug addicts, especially in the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul, as well as testing an innovative way of testing drug addicts for HIV/AIDS, TB or HCV/HBV. Based on this type of testing, and therefore the ability to provide relevant data, Afghanistan will have a better chance of gaining support from the Afghan government as well as from foreign donors who require these studies.
