The main aim of the project is to increase the professional and scientific capacity on the field of addictology in Georgia – scientific enquiry into addictive behavior – a phenomeom that represents one of the currently highest threads in Georgia.

The project aims to develop the drug situation monitoring capacity of the Institute of Addictology (its function of the National Focal Point on Drugs and Drug Addiction), and to further enhance the research capacity of the Institute of Addictology (AIM 1). It also aims to create specific teaching modules in addictology to be implemented in the bachelor’s (BA) curricula of disciplines related to decision-making and outcome dissemination in addictology (journalism, public policy and administration et al.), and to support further development and institutional position of the Georgian Association of Addictologists (GAA), especially in terms of its capacity to certify lifelong courses in the field of addictology (AIM 2).

The project uses the tools of participative education in the course of the summer school in Georgia, and in the course of brief targeted educative modules intended at a supervision of research and monitoring activities in Georgia. The outcomes of the project will be methodological guidelines for drug situation monitoring, performed research modules, progress in dissemination of research outputs into public communication and decision making in drug policy, an action plan of Georgian Association of Addictologists and it international cooperation, and a system of accreditaion and registration of lifelong learning courses in addictology.
