The project aims to strengthen the community-based system of natural resources management in 14 kebeles of Alaba and Senkura Woredas in SNNP Region of Ethiopia. It responds to a high level of environmental degradation resulting in poor agricultural productivity and increased vulnerability of people’s livelihoods.

The project focuses on strengthening the capacity of the key stakeholders responsible for the protection of natural resources in the target areas, namely 56 agricultural extension workers, 30 Government officials and at least 70 representatives of local citizens. Their improved capacity aims to enable the inhabitants of the local kebeles to effectively implement long-term measures for the protection and rehabilitation of individually and communally managed lands. Their long-term efforts shall be supported by their improved access to quality extension services provided primarily in the local Farmer Training Centres. The project expects to benefit 35,000 households living in the target areas.
