Despite the fact that Serbia is currently undergoing a number of socio-economic changes, the health sector is not supported and financed sufficiently. The most difficult situation is in remote rural areas such as Šumadija region. Czech development project targets the Arandjelovac Medical Center covering approximately 100,000 residents (potential patients). This area is one of the remotest from the nearest large hospital in Kragujevac. Facilities in Arandjelovac local radiology department are quite outdated (e.g. X-ray equipment itself is over 25 years old) and no longer meet current norms and standards. Therefore modern radiological equipment (X-ray and PACS) will be delivered together with training for hospital staff.
