The project aims at strengthening the capacity of the primary hospital in the city of Karat in Konso woreda in SNNPR region. The project will increase the professional capacity of the hospital staff, with an emphasis on mother and child care, and overall management. Trained community volunteers will be able to provide basic health consultations in communities. Essential medical equipment for obstetrics and gynecology departments of the hospital and surrounding health centers will be provided. Hospital facilities will be strengthened by constructing and equipping the dormitories. Improved awareness on nutrition, sanitation and mother and child care will be further promoted and enhanced through the campaigns for residents of Konso woreda.
