In June 2014, the Government of Georgia adopted the strategic document "Socio-Economic Development Strategy of Georgia - Georgia 2020", identifying six priority sectors: Economic growth (improvement of the business environment, reform of the tax and fiscal system, further development of agriculture, development of transport infrastructure); Human capital development (improvement of the education system); Rule of law and justice (building an independent judiciary and fighting corruption); Good governance (development of democratic processes, decentralisation of public administration); Sustainable use of natural resources (green technologies); Social welfare and health care (setting and improving standards of care).

Following the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda in New York in September 2015, the Government of Georgia took the initiative to contribute to sustainable development through voluntary efforts as a follow-up to the Millennium Development Goals. The performance achieved during the MDG implementation process has been a key driver and progress in Georgia's development goals. With the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union and the implementation of the Action Plan for visa liberalisation, Georgia has made progress in institutional and fundamental reforms. The Government of Georgia is focusing on sustainable development activities to provide real opportunities and improve the living standards of its citizens.
