The overall objective of the project is to inform and raise the awareness of EU citizens about the global interdependencies and challenges. One of the results is connected with the implementation of the project in an efficient manner which helps the partners to sustain the results and build their capacity so that they can continue working efficiently with the topics and the media in the future. The specific objective of the project is to engage the national media and policy makers in EU member states to better inform the citizens about the global interdependencies and challenges of the post-2015 development framework.
Based on the latest Eurobarometer (Solidarity that spans the globe: Europeans and development aid) the people in Europe as well as in the Czech Republic believe that it is important to help people in developing countries and promote official development assistance (ODA). However, more than half of European citizens know little about where their country’s development aid goes and how it works. This is partly due to the fact that the national media is not disseminating enough quality information about development issues. At the same time, they lack finances for travel to developing countries. Likewise, policy makers play a key role in fulfilling the commitments in the field of ODA. Most of the time they prefer domestic issues and development issues to remain a back seat. This project aims to change this situation. The general public will be informed and educated about development cooperation, EYD 2015 and sustainable development objectives through cooperation with journalists and the media.
