The project “Geophysical survey in the Sidama zone” represents the first phase of a larger and more comprehensive project termed the „Establishment of a sustainable system of drinking water supply in small towns of Sidama Zone, SNNPR, Ethiopia, II“. The purpose of the geophysical survey in the Sidama zone was to identify suitable locations for drilling of boreholes, which would serve as a source of drinking water for the local population, and also to design a complete water supply network, which will be constructed during the second phase of the larger project.

In 2013, the Geophysical survey project was successfully carried away and has now been concluded.  It primarily involved a survey of the terrain and the collection of necessary field data. Subsequently, in coordination with the respective Water Departments, prospective locations were identified for the boreholes and conceptual proposals were formulated for the supply of the selected areas with drinking water. The selection of suitable locations where the water supply network will be constructed was finalised on the basis of an evaluation of the gathered data and the conceptual proposals.
