The long-term aim of the project is to improve teaching and research at the Hawassa University, specifically at two faculties: the Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resources and the College of Agriculture. The aim of the project is to improve the knowledge and skills of the staff and students in three fields: the use of new biotechnologies for the conservation of genetic resources (Molecular biology and Plant tissue cultures); introduction of new farming practices (Agroforestry, Ethnobotany and new crop development, Post-harvest processing); and rural extension (Identification and implementation of rural development projects, Value-chain development). The courses will be conducted through weekly or two-week courses with practical workshops aimed at passing on the expertise and knowledge from the Czech University of Life Sciences to local students and teachers.
