The project aim is to reduce depopulation of mountain areas in Tusheti region in Georgia through ensuring continuous sustainable and environmentally friendly supply of electricity for administrative buildings and population in Tusheti villages. Based on experience from previous pilot projects insular photovoltaic systems are being constructed. Apart from ensuring electricity supply the project leads to emission reduction by replacing diesel electric generators by renewable energy sources.

The best way to ensure access to electricity for local residents is the construction of the electricity grid based on the principle of renewable energy sources. This has several advantages. Installing photovoltaic panels directly to the homesof local residents do not require building a transmission system. Moreover, after the system installation the residents do not pay for electricity supply and do not produce any harmful emissions.
