The project is aimed at improvement of the water supply system in the city of Murun (Hovsgul province). The purpose of the project is to satisfy the current and potential demand of the city, in terms of quality as well as quantity of supplied water. The project is in line with the Mongolian national development strategies and contributes to the Mongolian National Programme "Water " .
The main activities of the project include the repair of the water supply network, automation of pumping and controlling of water distribution, securing the repair and regular controls of the quality of the water, setting the economy of operation of the whole system, and the capacity building of the company USNAAK (the administrator of the water line and sewage in the Hovsgul province). In order to secure the long-term sustainability of the water supply of the city of Murun, exploratory works for localization of new water sources will also take place. Those sources will be sufficient in capacity for future increased demand while simultaneously they will not be endangered by contamination from the surface causes.
To ensure maximum relevance of the project, its precise targeting and optimal use of technological design of the project, was divided into several phases. In the preparatory phase of the project has been through two smaller contracts acquired data forming the foundations of the main phase of the project .
The main phase will be implemented according to the data gathered during previous activities. The main phase of the project will be hydrogeological survey and identification of new catchment area , the capacity and sustainability of the water supply system especially the revitalization of existing wells and the construction of a new waterworks facility expansion, increasing the volume of water tank, installation of automation, supply and calibration of laboratory equipment , the introduction of control of water abstraction , performance-related training, etc.). In order to secure sustainability the proposal of the water management company will be formulate. The proposal will meet the current standards and models and will be processed in parallel modern operating plans and long-term development of systems that enable management informed decisions about future direction.
