The project aim is to improve the system of municipal waste in the region Kolubara through a pilot project: construct transfer stations with collecting court. The project will support the Serbian government's efforts to establish, in accordance with the National Waste Management Strategy, the regional waste management systems. Further, regional secure landfills, recycling centers, reloading stations and other necessary equipment will be built meeting stringent international standards. In total, 26 regional landfill sites for 160 municipalities and 44 transfer stations will be constructed. Creation of a regional waste management plans will ensure the decentralization and local development, as well as unique waste management system adapted to the conditions of individual regions.
As part of the project, the transfer station in the town of Valjevo, will be built that will serve in gathering and handling of waste from the city and surrounding area before its removal for disposal or recycling. Municipal solid wastes will be reloaded here from precarriage vehicles in special bulk containers, which then carry the waste to local landfills. In the separation part of the transfer stations will be placed other specialized containers and bins for the collection and further use of separated waste types. Project activities will be focused on developing a pilot project for technological transfer stations. Technical works and equipment of the station will be carried out to ensure its full and maximum functionality for streamline collection, transport, use recycling and disposal of household waste. Over 60 thousand Valjevo´s inhabitants and 20 thousand of population of attraction zone will benefit from the project.
