The project is aimed at individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) whose status is not defined in Georgia because they cannot be designated as „person with handicap” based only on ASD diagnosis. As a result of this situation, there is lack of specific services for this group of population in the area of screening, diagnostics, therapy, integration, and social care. Moreover, translations of essential publications into Georgian are missing.

While implementing the project, emphasis is put mainly on the following: spreading of information and edification among state institutions (conferences, study tours, round tables), establishing capacities of local professionals (trainings, workshops, study tours), implementing newly acquired information into practice (e.g. pilot integrating classroom opening and application of diagnostic and therapeutic methods in centres devoted to care of children with ASD.

Target groups are especially professionals devoted to care of individuals with ASD (psychologists, therapists, counselling workers, physicians, nurses, teachers in integrating classrooms), furthermore, state institutions representatives whose operating can positively influence lives of individuals with ASD. Final beneficiaries are of course individuals with ASD themselves who benefit from more quality services and generally better conditions in the country. Project focuses primarily on areas of Tbilisi, Batumi and Zugdidi. Nevertheless, thanks to co-operating with state institutions and training of local trainers, its contribution is transferable to other regions of Georgia in the future as well.
