The objective of the project is to improve the ecological stability of the area of three kebeles in AwassaZuriaWoreda through enhancement of local capacities, by introducing of complex erosion control measures and implementation of landscape management plan and thus improve the livelihood of about 21,000 inhabitants. The project is directly linked to the previous intervention; the best practices of the previous project will be implemented in neighboring kebeles, where community expressed interest in involvement to the project. Different soil and water conservation measures will be constructed in the degraded areas of the selected kebeles according to their suitability to reduce degradation problems. Various kinds of trees that will be grown in the nursery will be planted in slope areas. Fast-growing and fruit species will be distributed to farmers for cultivation in home gardens. The afforestation activity will be also supported through direct sowing of different agroforestry species to increase the tree density and to hasten the rehabilitation of the degraded lands.
