The Czech Development Agency (CzDA) is seeking consultancy services for the preparation of a new delegated cooperation project in Zambia, titled "Improved Livelihoods Through Enhanced Value Chains' Development in Forest Products and Services".
The project aims to support sustainable forestry, biodiversity conservation, the development of community forestry initiatives, and the promotion of economic activities linked to natural resources.
Consultants may specialize in one or more of these areas. The preparatory team will be composed of multiple consultants.
Expected scope of consultancy services:
The selected consultant(s) will be involved in the following activities:
- Conducting desk research and expert analysis to develop project background materials
- "Fact-finding" expert mission to Eastern province (22 March – 5 April 2025)
- Attending preparatory meetings with project partners
- Preparing reports, analyses, proposals of supplementary documents for the project
The consultancy is expected to run for approximately 7 months (March – September 2025), with the potential for an extension. The cooperation will be conducted on an ad hoc basis as needed, starting immediately in March 2025. The exact terms of cooperation and type of contract will be defined individually with selected candidates. The consultants shall be based in Zambia.
Required expertise:
- Protection of national parks, wildlife, ecotourism and biodiversity
a. Supporting the planning and implementation of sustainable management plans for national parks.
b. Capacity building for biodiversity conservation (anti-poaching, illegal trade).
c. Promoting sustainable interactions between people and wildlife.
d. Developing ecotourism using natural and cultural heritage.
- Agroforestry and development of community forestry groups
a. Promoting multipurpose forestry schemes for growers, development of plantations and agroforestry systems
b. Developing community forestry management and promoting diversification of income from forest products.
c. Developing digital systems for traceability and promoting certification.
d. Developing biodiversity-related businesses (beekeeping, medicinal plants, nature conservation).
e. Strengthening the legislative framework for biodiversity conservation and equitable benefit sharing.
Expert profile required:
- Proven expertise and experience in one or more of the above-mentioned areas.
- Ability to implement field activities (e.g. planning, training, facilitation) and provide strategic advice.
- Experience in project development, proposal writing, analysis and data collection.
- Strong teamwork skills to cooperate with other consultants to cover a broader range of activities is an advantage.
- Based in Zambia.
Conditions of cooperation:
- Consultancy services will be provided on an ad hoc basis from March to September 2025
- Participation in the "Fact-finding" expert missions planned for 22 March-5 April 2025.
