Mongolia is facing environmental burdens incurred activities of industrial enterprises, military accidents etc., but Mongolian experience in the removal of environmental burdens are limited. The project aims to increase the capacity of the Mongolian systematically and comprehensively address the issue of environmental damage.

The first step to effective procedure is an overview of the current situation, both in the legislative and methodology. There is also a need to obtain information on the distribution, origin and risks arising from environmental damage themselves. Due to the fact that a detailed mapping of all environmental burdens located in Mongolia is a task of considerable extent and also out of the possibilities of the project, the project will focus on increasing the capacity of the Mongolians to help them doing adequate measures separately.

First of all, there is a need to develop of relevant methodologies, adapted to the specific conditions of the Mongolian (such as the identification, categorization and prioritization of environmental burdens, as well as introduction of various modern remediation methods, including pilot tests, analysis of the risks). Next step will be formulation of plan for changes in legislation and creation of an electronic database of environmental loads in the GIS environment , optimized for Mongolian conditions. This will be followed by the transferring of know -how in the field of investigation of contaminated sites and remediation of basic methods.

The project will focus on representative government, which has an area of environmental burdens in charge, but also on the relevant experts from the areas of pollution surveys and his subsequent removal (mainly university students and teaching staff from the relevant university courses) .
