Kampong Chhnang Province in Cambodia is in need of a radical improvement regarding water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH sector). The lack of access to drinking water and sanitation facilities as well as insufficient knowledge and capacities lead to higher occurrence of waterborne diseases and have negative impacts on the already weak socioeconomic position of the area. The project responds complexly to these problems and comprises both infrastructure aspects as well as “soft” components of capacity-building and public education.

The three main parts of the project are building and improvement of the WASH infrastructure; raising awareness of the target groups about the importance of hygiene habits and responsible water use; and building of capacities and know-how of institutional actors and improvement of technical skills of the private sector and the experts from non-profit organizations. In order to come up with complex solutions, the consortium composed of Diakonie ČCE, Czech company G-service and Czech University of Life Sciences Prague was created. Each member of the consortium brings their own experience and expertise to the project so that the intervention impact is maximized. The project is also implemented in cooperation with Life with Dignity, a long-term local partner of Diakonie ČCE.
