The aim of the project is to promote social and economic inclusion of children and youth with disabilities and children from the socially excluded communities in the municipality of Prizren. The task is to improve and increase motivation for further education and development of children with special needs and children from excluded communities so that these vulnerable groups of children and young people learn how to successfully struggle with prejudice and discrimination in the mainstream society, to fight for their rights and have a chance to further education and later, to lead an independent and successful life. Project activities will support them and their parents to get an overview of their rights and outline possible ways to improve the situation of persons with disabilities and help them gain orientation in the not always friendly surroundings. The project will support both clients and therapists of the Center for Early Detection and Care by improving their treatment facilities and by transferring new methods of working with preschool children with development disorders. Deaf children and young people will have the opportunity to visit new creative leisure courses, supporting their overall development, and a new vocational course will be introduced to assist them in finding a job within the area. Also, recommendations for employment of persons with disabilities will be developed. Another component is the provision of additional teaching and support for children from national minorities at risk of early school leaving, so called “drop-outs”. An important part of the project will be, as we have mentioned above, an intensive work with parents of all target groups and their activation, associating and involvement in advocacy activities at the both local and national levels.
