The project aims to contribute to the reduction of energy poverty in rural areas of Cambodia by strengthening CSOs, government and private sector’s capacities to sustainably promote and market renewable energy technologies. The project aims to continue supporting the development of a permanent, market oriented, biodigester sector across twelve target provinces of Cambodia. Through subsidising the construction of biodigesters, continued coaching of private sector companies that construct biodigesters; supporting biodigester users maximise the benefits of their biodigesters; and supporting an improved policy environment for biogas; the project intends to achieve; by the end of 2017, sustainable energy supply for at least 8000 people living in rural areas; the active functioning of 70 BCCs employing at least 420 people; and access for 47,380 future and existing users of domestic biodigesters to qualified after-sale services; contributing to improvements in the livelihoods, health and environment of biodigester users and significantly reducing GHG emissions from traditional fuel sources. The project will support the strengthening of Cambodia’s market-based solar sector.
